Whether your business is fully remote or you have multiple team members worldwide, it’s essential to create a smooth process to delegate projects, give feedback, and train staff without wasting time creating lengthy written documents.

This is where screen-recording software comes in handy. You can get your message across the globe to your team through videos that can be created and shared instantly.

What’s the best screen-recording tool for your business? Although there are quite a lot of options out there, Loom has proved to be one of the top tools to record your screen, voice, and instructions with ease.

Learning the ropes on your own can be confusing. We created a loom tutorial to help you understand how to use Loom for the best results. We’ve broken down the entire process into easy-to-follow steps to help you reach maximum productivity and streamlined processes.

Learn how to use the Loom video recorder, why Loom is the best tool for you, how Loom can transform your communication process, and so much more with our loom video tutorial.

Pro Tip: Installing the loom chrome extension will make the process easier, as you’ll have the option to start recording with a single click as soon as you finish reading this article.

Loom Overview: How And When To Use Loom?

What is Loom?

Loom is the easiest way to create and share videos with your remote working team. With just a few clicks, you can record a video (up to 50 minutes) without any fancy setup and share it with your team instantly.

The software is free to record videos (with a maximum of 25 videos up to 5 minutes long). If you want to record more in-depth videos and have unlimited sharing, we recommend getting the paid plan. The free starter option is best to use the software as a trial, but for any business, you’ll need the flexibility to record without restrictions.

Practical Uses of Loom Screen Video Recorder

Create Standard Operating Procedures

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a step-by-step guide that instructs you on how to carry out a specific task in your department. At Scaling With Systems, we have a set of SOPs for our departments.

We usually create a google document with step-by-step written instructions on how to do a specific job. On top of that, we create loom videos which are detailed visual walkthroughs of the document to ensure the instructions are crystal clear.

Our company creates anywhere between 100-200 Loom videos every single day. It has worked wonders for our business, so we recommend the Loom Recorder to our paid clients.

Loom Video Interviews (Hiring Process)

Loom Recorder makes interviewing and hiring easier for businesses. As an eight-figure company, we interview, hire and manage hundreds of people annually. We added a whole Loom instruction video to our application process as a necessary step.

When applying, candidates create a 2-5 minute loom instruction video telling us about their skill sets and why they would be a good fit. It helps us identify qualified candidates who can handle the loom interface and use technology to get things done quickly.

Secondly, we also get an idea about the candidate, their body language, skills, confidence, and if they would be an excellent cultural fit for the team.

Communication With The Team & Clients

When communicating important points, feedback, and instructions, Loom is a lifesaver. We use it for both our internal team and our clients. We have 1:1 client success coaches appointed for all of our clients, and they use Loom regularly.

By creating Loom videos instead of going through zoom meetings back and forth multiple times a day, our client success coaching saves a lot of time. We have a dedicated slack channel with our clients where we create Loom videos to answer their questions and provide support without wasting time scheduling a call.

Beyond client communication, you’ll experience the ease of recording your screen, voice, and video simultaneously. This helps you convey essential points to the team, creating a faster (and more accurate) workflow than if you had to write out all of these instructions.

Loom: Benefits of Screen Video Recorder

1. Managing Teams and Projects

Loom videos are a great way to manage internal communication within the team, assign projects, resolve issues, and send crystal-clear instructions. Use a screen recorder to keep everyone on track as they work toward a common goal.

Our department leaders record anywhere between 8-10 loom videos every single day. The loom desktop app has made the team and project management much easier. You can record videos at your fingertips and share them with your team.

Whether it’s walking through a project assigned, resolving an internal conflict, or creating a software tutorial, loom videos make these tasks a piece of cake.

2. Training and Onboarding Employees

Joining the crew from a remote location has never been easier. Deliver recorded tutorials from afar using video screen capture. The SOPs created through loom videos play an important role in training new employees to perform their job efficiently.

As part of our onboarding process, we use Loom videos to increase communication around system setup, train our team on the platform, and troubleshoot any integration or configuration issues.

3. Insightful Sales Calls

Face-to-face sales calls are a great way to impress prospective clients. Show off your portfolio by sharing your screen. If a prospect contacts your sales team about a service, they may want to know more about the pricing. You can use videos to answer their questions.

To strengthen your customer relationships, add a face, voice, and personality to your emails and links instead of just sending a written message. Provide them with the details they requested via screen recordings or regular videos and encourage them to do the same. With videos, you can communicate with customers without back-and-forth emails or coordinating one-on-one meetings.

4. Remote Troubleshooting

Explaining your tech issues via email can be a hassle. Instead, show your issues to your team by sharing your screen and get a Loom video in response from them to fix the error. Resolve IT issues quickly without an on-site technician.

Walk through the problem on your screen, and your support team will fix it remotely. The next time your team has questions that cannot be answered by email or Slack, share your screen, record a video, and send it to your tech team! This ensures that you meet deadlines and get actual results for your business.

5. Team Collaboration

One of the greatest challenges for remote teams is establishing meaningful connections. With screen capture, you can bring everyone together with a personal touch. Loom screen recorder helps you build close relationships with your teammates to achieve your best results.

It allows you to document knowledge to share lessons and benefit from each other’s insights. A video shoutout also lets you recognize a coworker’s exceptional work or celebrate your team’s success.

Loom Recording Platforms: Chrome, Desktop, and Mobile

Loom Recorder lets you use the software on four platforms. Some features and functionality might differ depending on the platform. Each platform provides great results; your choice will depend on your requirements and preferences in how you work.

Reasons to use these platforms.

  • Loom Extension for Chrome: With a two-click installation, you can record quick and easy videos from your Chrome browser. You can choose between three capture modes: cam-only, screen + cam, or screen-only.
  • Loom Desktop App: With your camera bubble, you can record across any browser or application. You can also highlight mouse clicks and record high-definition videos (only for Loom Education, Business, and Enterprise users).
  • Loom for iOS (mobile): Loom lets you record on the go. You can record audio only, screen only, or camera only. You can share straight from your mobile device to Slack, Gmail, Messenger, and more.
  • Loom for Android (mobile): Take Loom with you wherever you go. Select one of four recording options: screen only, cam only, screen plus cam, or audio only.  Directly share videos to Slack, Gmail, Messenger, and more.

Limitations of these platforms

  • Loom Extension for Chrome: If you’re recording with an application other than Chrome, you can’t record your camera bubble. When using Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer as your browser of choice, you won’t be able to launch the loom application.
  • Loom Desktop App: Linux or Chromebook OS are not supported (available only on Mac and Windows). You can check our compatibility here.
  • Loom for iOS (mobile): The screen + cam mode cannot be recorded.
  • Loom for Android (mobile): It is only compatible with Android 8.0 and higher.

Do you need a Loom account to watch a recording?

How long do videos stay on Loom?

Loom videos are available for as long as you like. Your videos have no expiration date. The files will remain available until you choose to delete them.
